Glamour, in a family way

Share

Just the sight of a pregnant 1. Jessica Alba was enough to get fellow co-host Rosario Dawson squealing at Glamour magazine’s luncheon on Jan. 10 to celebrate the decade anniversary of V-Day, which has raised $50 million to increase awareness about violence against women. Later, Alba, who performed Eve Ensler’s monologue titled “My Short Skirt,” got the rest of the mostly female crowd going when she lamented that her famous backside was “getting bigger by the second!” 2. Amber Tamblyn and V-Day founder Ensler went tete-a-tete at the power lunch, which honored the women of the Gulf South and New Orleans, including spoken-word artist Asali Njeri DeVan. Brave male attendees 3. Dylan McDermott, left, and Val Kilmer helped keep the peace.

They’re happy to do AFI Awards Luncheon

No tux, no problem at the AFI Awards Luncheon on Jan. 11. That was enough to get 4. Josh Brolin, left, to kick up his feet, er, foot alongside his “No Country for Old Men” costar Javier Bardem at the everyone’s-a-winner affair, which highlighted their film along with 19 other movies and TV shows of the year, including the quirky “Juno” and the recently departed “The Sopranos.” Allison Janney, Minka Kelly and 5. Tilda Swinton were among the ladies who lunched at the Four Seasons Hotel, while 6. Alec Baldwin, right, put ‘er there for Judd Apatow. Despite the downer of the ongoing WGA strike, a plaque-toting 7. Julian Schnabel found the sunny side in his yellow-tinted glasses, even if his chance to pick up the director trophy for “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” at that other award show went bust.

More artists than you can shake a brush at

At the Santa Monica Museum of Art’s 20th anniversary party on Jan. 10 and 11, 11. Ayn Grinstein-Donenfeld, daughter of honorees Elyse and Stanley Grinstein, celebrated hitting the $1-million mark alongside party co-chair Ed Ruscha. With several acclaimed artists in attendance, guests should have saved their tablecloths, which started out as blank brown butcher block paper and ended up covered in drawings. While there’s no word on whether any of the off-the-cuff artwork made it on the auction block, the designs on the limited edition plates, including those of artist 12. Mark Bradford, did.

‘Money’ theme has a certain currency

8. Katie Holmes ensured that all eyes -- including those of hubby Tom Cruise -- were on her at the “Mad Money” premiere on Jan. 9. The trick? A glitzy Emporio Armani dress with a cut-out back. But although Katie stole the spotlight on the green-colored carpet outside the Mann Village Theatre, at the after-party it was all about the Benjamins. Shredded bills, courtesy of the Federal Reserve, filled clear tables at UCLA’s Royce Hall while faux funds served as wallpaper. Cast mates 9. Queen Latifah and 10. Diane Keaton paid their respects to the trio of chefs, Carolynn Spence, Nancy Silverton and Suzanne Tracht, whose Jar French fries with lobster bearnaise came inside a cone made of -- what else? -- cash.
