Pepperdine (6-13, 0-3) at Santa Clara (9-8, 1-1), 8, ESPNU -- The Waves played admirably Saturday in their first game since the abrupt resignation of coach Vance Walberg, but lost, 79-74, to St. Mary’s. It was the fourth time in six games they had lost a game by five or fewer points and was their seventh loss in eight games. John Bryant leads Santa Clara with a 17.5-point average.

Loyola Marymount (4-15, 1-2) at St. Mary’s (15-2, 2-0), 7, 88.9 FM -- The Lions lost, 58-35, Saturday to Santa Clara, marking their lowest scoring output since a 61-31 loss to UC Santa Barbara in the 1949-50 season. They shot 33.3% in the game and lost for the eighth time in nine games. St. Mary’s, which briefly cracked the national top 25 twice this season, has won three consecutive games.
