Officers under investigation
Nearly 30 Los Angeles police officers are under internal investigation for their role in last May’s melee during a rally in MacArthur Park, a police official said Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s internal affairs division has compiled 72 allegations, most of unnecessary force, against 29 officers, LAPD Capt. Jeri Weinstein said at a Police Commission meeting Tuesday.
Next week, the department will hand over a report of the allegations to FBI agents and the district attorney’s office for possible criminal charges against officers, Weinstein told commission members. Also, in early February, a panel of LAPD commanders will review the allegations. The panel will decide whether officers acted outside department policy and will recommend discipline.
