Jason Reitman, Oscar-nominated director of this year’s best picture candidate “Juno” and the 2006 indie satire “Thank You for Smoking,” will screen and discuss Alexander Payne’s dark comedy “Election” as part of the AFI/Skirball Cultural Center’s Cinema’s Legacy series, Friday at the Skirball Center. Pictured: Payne with star Reese Witherspoon (skirball.org). . . . “Bluebeard’s Castle,” a 1964 production of the Bela Bartok opera for West German TV, will have its first U.S. screening Friday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The one-hour film was directed by British filmmaker Michael Powell, and his widow, Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker, will introduce the screening. “The Tales of Hoffmann,” from 1951, which Powell directed with Emeric Pressburger, follows “Castle” (lacma.org). . . . The American Cinematheque’s Otto Preminger retrospective continues Friday at the Egyptian Theatre with his 1967 Southern drama “Hurry Sundown,” with stars John Phillip Law and Robert Hooks on hand. On Saturday, Carol Lynley will chat about her starring role in 1965’s mystery “Bunny Lake Is Missing.” And on Sunday, star Don Murray will discuss his experience making 1962’s “Advise & Consent” (americancinematheque.com).
