Laminated photos of six top presidential candidates will hang on the beer spigots at the three Barney’s locations (the original, 88-year-old roadhouse in West Hollywood as well as less scruffy sites in Old Town Pasadena and Santa Monica) and every beer sold will be tallied as a vote. Avoid the Rudy Giuliani lager: It’s been flat since 2001. . . . We all read the obituaries last year for Arthur, the psychedelic journal of the high and high-minded, but Jay Babcock’s magazine lives on at www.arthurmag.com. Arthur is lending its folk-freak, lo-fi vibe to a series of Sunday night shows at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. On Sunday it’s the Entrance Band, White Rainbow and Winter Flowers. It’s the shared birthday of two titans, director John Ford and Clark Gable, and also marks the anniversary of the very first movie studio, which was completed on Feb. 1, 1893, by Thomas Edison. To mark the date, go see “No Country for Old Men” on the big screen it absolutely deserves instead of waiting for the DVD.
