New shows give ABC, NBC boosts

ABC and NBC both found success with a crop of premieres last week, as “Wipeout,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” and “Baby Borrowers” were all among the 11 most-watched prime-time programs, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

The ABC competition series “Wipeout” was the second most-watched program between June 23 and Sunday with 9.98 million viewers, the most for an ABC summer premiere since the July 13, 2005, debut of “Brat Camp.” “Wipeout” also was the week’s most-watched program among viewers ages 18 to 49, the group ABC, NBC and Fox target. .

Opposite “Wipeout,” the game show “Celebrity Family Feud” was drawing 8.82 million viewers, NBC’s largest audience in the 8-9 p.m. time period since the April 15 season finale of “The Biggest Loser,” to finish fifth for the week.

After a week’s absence, CBS returned to the top of the weekly network race, averaging 6.59 million viewers for its prime-time programming, its fourth victory in the five weeks of television’s summer season.

A two-hour episode of the NBC talent show “America’s Got Talent” was the week’s most-watched program with 11.68 million viewers.

Fox led among viewers ages 18 to 49.
