Underrated: The Long Beach Aqualink, a $3 boat ride across the Long Beach waterfront offering nice views of the city and harbor, especially at dusk. A great way to cool down on a hot day. Can also be combined with Blue Line and Passport Bus connections for an auto-free excursion.

Overrated: Hybrid cars. They overcharge for hybrids, so any hopes of offsetting skyrocketing gasoline costs go instead into the coffers of the automakers. And the newest scam, leasing batteries for hybrid-electrics: Hoping to save on gas, you now will pay $200 a month for batteries, plus charging.
