So, Who’s to Blame?

As a Californian who travels extensively--mostly for work (I’m writing from Equatorial Guinea), I agree with Dan Neil’s 800 Words column (“Please Don’t Go,” June 1).

A few years ago I was in Bali talk- ing to some Australians who were complaining vociferously about how the place had been “ruined.” “Well, who do you think ruined it?” I asked. “Tourists,” they said. Translation--everybody else but me.
