RAIL FOOD DAILY

I enjoyed your guide to eating along the Metro lines [“Dining Destinations,” July 10]. Some I knew, but others are news to me and I look forward to trying them.

But how in the world could you do a guide for the Red Line and not at least mention Langer’s, which owes its very life to the Metro line?

After years of watching the business die in the gradual erosion of gangs taking over the MacArthur Park area, the advent of the Red Line stop at Alvarado gave new life to this fine old eating establishment.

I have taken many friends on a ride on the Metro to enjoy a corned beef sandwich on hand-cut rye. Mmmmmmmm.

A very well-planned article about dining via Metro.

FYI, the Metro Art Council has a docent program whereby the public can take a two-hour Metro art tour on the first Saturday and Sunday mornings of each month, meeting at 10 a.m. (Saturdays at Hollywood/Highland; Sundays at the Union Station information kiosk). There are also private tours for groups of 15 and more.

No charge is made for the expertly guided tours, and participants receive a free daily pass for any and all Metro lines for the entire day. Contact Metro.net or (213) 922-2738.

I really enjoyed your article. I think a lot of people are looking for ways to start using public transportation, but it seems inconvenient. If people know that they can actually use Metro for enjoyable exploration, they’ll be a lot more likely to try it. And once they try it for fun, they might start to use it for regular commuting.

Regarding the Metrolink sidebar [“There’s No Reason to Go Hungry Near Metrolink’s Stops,” July 10]:

By once again leaving out the Eastern end of Los Angeles County, you missed the wonderful restaurants, bakeries, wine bars and pubs in the Claremont Village.

All are walking distance from the Metrolink train station on the San Bernardino line.
