The Ginger factor

Re “Hillary Clinton: the Ginger Rogers of the trail,” July 13

I enjoy Top of the Ticket and think it’s a refreshing addition to The Times. However, you missed the point in quoting Hillary Clinton: “It’s one of those Ginger Rogers-Fred Astaire things,” referring to mornings on the campaign trail when Barack Obama was able to get up and exercise while Clinton had to get her hair done.

The point of the reference: When people debate who was the better dancer, Rogers or Astaire, the feminine response is that Fred was a great dancer, but Ginger had to dance backward while wearing high heels.

I think this missing piece of information is key to understanding the reference.
