Actual new-car prices

For many consumers, negotiating a new-car purchase can be a frustrating experience. Even if the dealer offers a discount, you can’t help but wonder whether you’re getting a good price.

Realcartips.com tries to help, showing actual prices paid by car buyers around the country.

From the home page, choose “Browse Car Prices” and select the model you want. For the 2008 Honda Accord, for example, the site shows 14 purchases in the last month, with buyers reporting discounts ranging from 2% to 13% off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

Buyers also rate their experience with the dealer, and some offer advice. “If you stick to your guns they will come down,” one Colorado buyer wrote.
