“The Bill Engvall Show” returns for its second season on TBS next Thursday. How does Engvall, a long-married father of two who lives in Manhattan Beach, compare with the sitcom family man he portrays? “Except for the fact that I’m not a therapist in real life, we’re about the same,” he said. “It was a natural fit.”

PLAY BALL An ideal way to start would be a Friday night Angels game. But if I didn’t have tickets, I’d go down to my favorite sports bar -- the Sharks Cove in Manhattan Beach -- and watch it there. I can walk to it. They’ve got about 10,000 TVs and even have booths with TVs. The food is the usual: burgers, hot wings, salads, pizzas, all good. I watched a game there with Luis Gonzalez once when he had a night off from the Dodgers.

WE NEVER CLOSE On Saturday morning we’d definitely have breakfast at the Kettle. They’re open 24 hours and have been there forever. I’d get the steak and eggs or the sausage and biscuits. I’ve seen people there in slacks and dress shirts or flip-flops and shorts. Then I’d catch some sun down at the beach and do some boogie boarding. After I’d worked up an appetite, I’d head up to Manhattan Pizzeria. I’m a sausage-and-black-olive man.

NET RESULTS Then I’d go back down to the beach and hang out, maybe play a little volleyball, and then come back home and clean up for dinner at Rock’n Fish, a great bar with great food -- jambalaya, steaks, a good wine list. Then we’d take a walk along the Strand and call it a night.

BRUNCH ‘N’ BIKES On Sunday morning we’d go to the Shade Hotel for their excellent brunch. That’s about as high-end as I go on my favorite weekend. After a big meal like that, we’d get on our beach cruisers and ride down to Hermosa and hang out there for a while.

THE CAPPER For dinner, we’d go O-Sho, where I’d start with a spicy tuna hand roll, Sapporo beer and a hot sake. I’d also get the 9-1-1 roll, which is a spicy tuna roll, sliced up, with this delicious hot sauce dribbled on top. It’s so good. Then we’ll watch the sun set from the Strand, come back home and have a glass of wine by the fire pit, and that ends the perfect weekend.
