Council not keen on ‘Dexter’ game

The Parents Television Council, which tried unsuccessfully to kill the broadcast version of “Dexter,” took an equally dim view of the news Wednesday that a “Dexter” video game is on the way.

“We promise to raise holy hell if the game is rated for teens,” said Tim Winter, president of the advocacy group.

“Dexter” follows a morally complicated serial killer who works as a police forensics expert by day and hunts down and murders escaped criminals by night. Originally created by Showtime for its pay-cable audience, CBS recently re-edited the series for broadcast, where it drew fire from the parents’ group for portraying a murderer sympathetically.

Winter said the Parents Television Council has no problems with violent material if it appears on a cable network that viewers have paid to obtain, or if it is rated Adults Only.

The video game is in pre-production, according to an announcement by Showtime and Mark Ecko Entertainment. No information was available on how the game would be rated.
