Re “Obama defined by contrasts,” March 24

The Times portrays Sen. Barack Obama as experiencing a lifetime of striking contrasts, moving him to the moderate center. The moderate center is not where Obama resides; rather, his political and philosophical home would be better described as belonging on the far left. Consider these questions: Does Obama believe in the redistribution of wealth and property? Does Obama believe in legislative action to correct the human condition? And perhaps most telling, can Obama be called a “neotrist,” or someone in love with change for its own sake?

The answer to each of these questions is a resounding yes. A lifetime of contrasts or not, Obama emerges as a figure not hardly in the middle, but an extremist wearing the emperor’s new clothes.
