Who would have thought that a charming tale could be fashioned out of two young English boys’ obsession with that lethal killing machine John Rambo? But “Son of Rambow” is a success in part because of that cracked premise. One of the boys, Will, belongs to a religious sect so strict they forbid the watching of films. Another, the devious Lee Carter, wants to win a filmmaking contest. When Will is accidentally exposed to “First Blood,” the boys combine to make a daft sequel. As written and directed by Garth Jennings, “Son of Rambow” has its share of theoretical flaws, but when you see these two boys in glorious pursuit of their dream, nothing else matters.
