Fire damages part of church
A fire that tore through the Harbor Christian Center church late Wednesday was accidental and electrical in origin, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
No injuries were reported in the fire at 1551 N. Wilmington Blvd., but about a quarter of the structure, housing the center’s offices and a day-care facility, sustained heavy damage. The rest of the building, including the main church area, was left intact.
Parishioners had attended a worship service on the grounds about 7 p.m., and a youth group had just finished one of its meetings when people spotted flames coming from the main building about 10:45 p.m.
The blaze was knocked down about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
The cost of the damage is not yet known.
The church is expected to be open for services Sunday.
