Broadcom names general counsel

Chip maker Broadcom Corp., which has fought rival Qualcomm Inc. in courts since 2005, named technology and insurance lawyer Arthur Chong general counsel.

Chong, 55, spent more than 20 years at McKesson Corp., a San Francisco information-technology and healthcare services company, before joining Seattle-based insurer Safeco Corp. as chief legal officer in 2005. He will start immediately, said Broadcom, which is based in Irvine.
