Boy, 8, is charged with murder
An 8-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the shooting of his father and another man in rural St. Johns, about 170 miles northeast of Phoenix.
The boy was charged with two counts of premeditated murder in the deaths of his father, Vincent Romero, 29, and Timothy Romans, 39, Police Chief Roy Melnick said. The boy, who prosecutors say had never been in trouble before, initially denied involvement in the Wednesday shootings but later confessed, Melnick said.
The child is being held at the Apache County juvenile detention center.
