McCain’s grace note

Re: “Inspiring words,” editorial, Nov. 6

Shakespeare wrote of Cawdor, a minor character in “Macbeth,” “Nothing in his life became him like the leaving it.” The same might be said of John McCain’s presidential campaign.

McCain, who is a thoroughly admirable individual, apparently succumbed to ill-advised counsel and waged a gutter campaign that was only exacerbated by his selection of the Alaskan Airhead as a running mate. But his concession speech was a grace note to what is probably the twilight of his political career. That’s a much better way to remember McCain than the vituperative cheap shots that soiled his campaign.
