From a Times Staff Writer

Alice Short on Monday was named an assistant managing editor of the Los Angeles Times, in charge of the Health, Food, Home, Travel and Image sections. The appointment was made by Editor Russ Stanton.

Short has worked at The Times for 21 years, starting at the Valley Edition, where she served as deputy editor and editor of the former View section. She became View editor in 1993 and helped in the transition of View to Life & Style, a now-defunct section that delved into such topics as health, fashion, home design and relationships. In 1997, she became editor of the Los Angeles Times Magazine, which she ran for 5 1/2 years.

The UCLA history graduate also served as daily Calendar editor and spent the last 2 1/2 years as the features editor for the California section.
