Route begone

Air France plans to stop flying between Los Angeles International Airport and London’s Heathrow Airport on Nov. 6. The airline is offering to reroute ticket holders or refund their money. Air France spokesman Nicolas Petteau said the last LAX-Heathrow flight will be Nov. 5 and the last Heathrow-LAX flight will be Nov. 6. The airline was contacting passengers booked after those dates and offering them three choices: fly from LAX to Paris with Air France and connect to Heathrow; connect to New York or Atlanta and then fly to Heathrow with Delta Air Lines, Air France’s SkyTeam partner; or get a full refund. Air France, which added the LAX-Heathrow route March 30, has said that “the present economic and financial crisis” prompted its decision to cancel the route, according to Petteau.

Bad vacation?

Los Angeles Times readers recently told us where to go, suggesting some out-of-the-way spots they discovered and loved. Now we’d like to know where not to go. We’ve all experienced getting to a highly touted destination and discovering there’s no there there. Or finding out that the once-in-a-lifetime trip your friends took was unique to them. Or realizing you’ve chosen exactly the wrong place to relax. (You cannot overcome your dislike of mountains or water by immersing yourself in them, you discover too late.) Or feeling completely out of place because you don’t speak the language and you don’t understand the customs or you are clearly not one of the locals. We’d like to hear about a place -- not a hotel or a restaurant but a destination -- that didn’t tickle your fancy one bit. Tell us why you didn’t like it (Was it you? Was it a quirk of weather? Just bad timing? Bad mood?) and whether you’d consider going back. Tell us the funny stuff. Tell us the sad stuff. Just tell us. Send to tellus@latimes.com. If selected, your place will be used in an upcoming Travel section.
