Re “Black voters hope, and fear” and “In a world of color, change,” Opinion, Oct. 19
In your news story, an African American voter notes that a presidential souvenir he bought for his daughter depicted “all white” presidents, and that “with a win, there’d be a black face on that ruler,” which “says everything” to him. In his Op-Ed article, Ruben Martinez rhapsodizes about the “difference [it will] make for my daughters to grow up pledging allegiance to a flag next to which hangs a portrait of Obama.”
Amazing how neither of these men were as concerned that, with the election of either Obama or McCain, we will have yet another man as president. Maybe it would have meant more to their daughters if a woman like Hillary Clinton had been elected. But, of course, they would miss that point. After all, they are men.
