It’s become a habit in Laguna

In Laguna, the nun makes sense (as do the economics of the single-actor show).

Maripat Donovan, who has performed all three comically blessed incarnations of her “Late Nite Catechism” solo franchise at the Laguna Playhouse, will premiere the fourth there next spring. “ ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3” (April 4 through May 3) will replace the previously announced premiere of “All the More to Love,” a new musical the playhouse commissioned.

Donovan’s return as Sister, written with Marc Silva, will find her expounding on the Roman Catholic sacraments of marriage and last rites. The actress-writer, who originated the part in Chicago in 1993, will do double-duty in Laguna this season: She’s also handling the holiday entertainment with a revival of “Sister’s Christmas Catechism” (Dec. 15 to 24).

Playhouse spokesman Christopher Trela said that “All the More to Love,” about the proprietor and clientele of a plus-size used-clothing shop, is likely to be on next season’s playlist. Donovan recently approached the theater about putting on her new show, he said Thursday, and the musical’s creators were OK with ceding their slot and taking more time with the show.
