Police arrest 20, seize cocaine
Peruvian police arrested 20 people suspected of working for Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel and seized 2.5 tons of cocaine hidden in boat bumpers, the Interior Ministry said.
The seizure is valued at $125 million. The 20 people arrested are four Mexicans, three Colombians and 13 Peruvians.
The cocaine was found over the weekend in a working-class neighborhood of Lima, tucked inside about 200 bumpers that are put around boats for protection while docked.
Drug violence has claimed thousands of lives in Mexico in the last few years. The Mexican cartels smuggle cocaine into the United States.
