Update -- The Sparks set a season high with 27 assists in a 85-70 victory Thursday night over the San Antonio Silver Stars in the opening game of the best-of-three Western Conference finals, but it was their rebounding that was especially effective, according to San Antonio Coach Dan Hughes. The Sparks owned a 37-21 edge on the boards, including 33-14 over the final three quarters. “They’re the best rebounding team in the league, so there’s some issues there to start with,” Hughes said. “We defended very poorly in the second quarter, but the defense over the second half wasn’t the culprit, it was the rebounding that created a lot of problems for us.”
