‘Sunshine Cleaning’

Even the larger fish in the small pool that is the independent film world are often gone from theaters before you know it. With Amy Adams, Emily Blunt and Alan Arkin in the cast, “Sunshine Cleaning” swims in bigger circles than most indies, but try to catch this poignant comedy before it slips away. Adams and Blunt are terrific as sisters who go into the crime-scene cleanup business to keep from sliding completely off the economic scale. They face down the blood-soaked aftermath of suicides and homicides with a mop and a smile -- a paycheck and redemption coming at the end of the day. There is comedy in what they find behind closed doors and drama in what they discover about themselves. Though “Sunshine” is about those standing on the fragile economic and emotional edge of life, the film simply makes you feel better.
