Boys with BB gun tried a holdup, police say
Police say they have nabbed two boys who tried to hold up an Oakland convenience store with a BB gun. They demanded gum, Push Pops and cash.
Authorities received a report of an armed robbery at an AM/PM mini-mart shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, they found the suspects still at the scene: an 8-year-old and his 10-year-old cousin.
Police spokesman Jeff Thomason said the store clerk reported that the boys told him they didn’t have any money but wanted the candy and cash, then flashed the weapon.
Officers detained the boys, who live at the same address, and turned them over to their parents, who were given a notice to take them to Juvenile Court.
Thomason says authorities are considering armed robbery charges against the children.
