Sun Microsystems Inc., developer of the Java programming language, was cleared by a federal jury of claims it stole a rival’s technology for software that configures computer systems.

The jury in Marshall, Texas, deliberated for three hours before finding in favor of Sun. Versata Software Inc. accused Sun of infringing two patents, stealing trade secrets, breaching a 1998 software-licensing contract and interfering with employment contracts.
