Acting on abuses

Re “Gov. vows to boost patient protections,” Aug. 13

Your article points out that one of the reasons for long delays in resolving misconduct cases against health professionals is the lack of state funding for the agencies doing the investigations.

Doubtless plenty of other similar abuses of the public trust exist in other underfunded state agencies. Must we wait for The Times and Pro Publica to report on every one of them before steps are taken to correct the deficiencies? It would be wiser for Californians to pay more in taxes to have the services we need from our state government. California’s voters and Republican legislators cannot profess outrage while withholding funds. They do so at everyone’s peril.
