Thank you for your “24 Frames” story (“24 Frames a Second -- and Loving It,” Aug. 18). It goes against the grain of the digital hype that most of the media have swallowed.

There are excellent quotes from independent filmmakers, but also questionable statements. For example, Mark Olsen wrote “a small, dedicated band of independent filmmakers is championing the seemingly outdated idea of actually shooting on film.” I think that the vast majority of movies that make it to cinema screens are produced on film.

I have been writing about cinematographers for 49 years. I can tell you that it isn’t true that video production requires smaller crews and less equipment. Cinematographers tell me that the opposite is true.
