Eric Gordon continues strong comeback
As the Clippers start a six-game trip tonight, one question is whether they can again count on consistent offense from Eric Gordon.
The second-year shooting guard matched his season high with 29 points Monday night that helped propel the Clippers to a 97-95 win over the Washington Wizards.
It was only Gordon’s seventh appearance in the Clippers’ last 16 games. He sat out eight games last month because of a sore left groin and one game early this month because of a sore left hamstring.
After returning to the lineup Dec. 5, Gordon scored 10, 21 and 10 points in the three games before the game against the Wizards.
He scored 29 points against the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 29.
Gordon -- who is averaging 17.9 points a game, second on the team to center Chris Kaman’s 18.9 points -- said he’s no longer bothered by the injuries, feels he has regained his rhythm and is “definitely comfortable again.”
“As long as I get the ball in my hands, I’ll be able to create plays for others and for myself,” especially when “we find a way to be in attack mode,” said the 6-foot-3 Gordon, an Indianapolis native who turns 21 on Christmas Day.
Away from home
The Clippers’ trip only gets tougher as it gets longer, with the first three games against teams playing under .500 and the last three against decidedly stronger opponents.
It starts with tonight’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, followed by the New York Knicks on Friday and the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.
Then the Clippers play the San Antonio Spurs -- who cruised past the Clippers on Sunday at Staples Center, 115-90 -- on Monday, followed by the Houston Rockets on Tuesday and the Phoenix Suns on Christmas.
