It takes more than a mouth full of soap

I can’t understand why some people take what Rush Limbaugh has to say so seriously [“Limbaugh Salvo Divides Both Parties,” Jan. 31].There are what, 300 million living Americans? With only 14 million weekly listeners, it would seem that the vast majority of Americans couldn’t care less what this blowhard has to say, let alone even know who he is.

Like other petty demagogues such as Father Coughlin and Joe McCarthy, Limbaugh will one day be just another strange footnote in the sweep of American history.

After all this country has been through and is going through, Rush Limbaugh is the last person we need to listen to. He’s not looking for legitimate political debate. He’s looking for ratings and a pulpit to spew his arrogance, divisiveness and antagonism. It’s not constructive and won’t help us solve the serious problems we are facing.

Regarding Rush Limbaugh’s statement that he hopes President Obama’s policies fail: Do any of his radio listeners realize that he is saying he hopes for further economic hardship for them? More lost jobs, lost pensions, lost hope for their and their children’s futures?

To Limbaugh, it is about celebrity and power. To his listeners, who are losing everything they have worked for all their lives, the success of Obama’s plan is their lifeline. I hope there is a special ring in hell for Mr. Limbaugh!
