The director of a production of “Romeo and Juliet” at Shakespeare’s Globe theater in London consulted a British police chief Wednesday over fears that free shows for 10,000 teenagers may unwittingly glamorize knife crime.

The version of the play that runs from March 9-13 at the rebuilt open-air theater on the banks of the River Thames in London is a special educational production, a spokesman for the theater said. The plot will not be altered, but director Bill Buckhurst will incorporate police recommendations about the use of knives to make sure the production is not seen to glorify violence.

Last year, 28 teenagers were killed in violent incidents in London, most in stabbings.
