Remember, Ohio

Re “Critics cool to home weatherization aid,” Feb. 16

We had our house weatherized last year. A team of four spent two days insulating, caulking, weatherstripping and painting. We spent about $5,000. This winter, we noticed a marked difference in the amount of energy needed to stay cozy.

House Minority Leader John Boehner claims that spending $5 billion over the next few years to accelerate the weatherization of homes for low-income Americans will not result in additional jobs. Critics further claim that the $5 billion will be spent on administrative costs of the program, rather than meeting Obama’s goals. Maybe if we hired Halliburton to do the work, that could be a problem, but somehow I doubt it will be bidding on this contract.

It’s brain-dead thinking like this that has made Boehner the minority leader instead of the majority leader. The Republicans seem intent on standing in the way of progress. The next round of elections are not that far away. We can only hope voters in Ohio remember when they get in the voting booth.
