Grand view in grand style

Share

The Granville Towers, a French Normandy-style classic, is only seven stories. But the view from this penthouse -- with windows in every room -- spans the San Gabriel Mountains, the downtown skyline and Catalina Island.

Built in 1930, this historic landmark in West Hollywood was designed by Leland Bryant, who collaborated with Samuel Coine to create the Four Gables Apartments, Savoy Plaza, La Fontaine and other unique properties in the area.

The luxury apartment houses served as fully furnished temporary homes for stars, writers and directors as they filmed projects in the 1920s and ‘30s.

Located a short distance from Chateau Marmont and the Laugh Factory, the Granville is a stately structure in the quiet neighborhood south of the trendy clubs and restaurants of the Sunset Strip.

The 40-unit building has been home to numerous celebrities, with Penthouse 79’s most recent occupant before its recent renovation being Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

Penthouse 79 stands in contemporary contrast to the Old Hollywood feel of the building’s grand lobby, outdoor gardens and 24-hour doorman. The intimate two-story unit features chocolate-colored stained-oak flooring, skylight windows that open, and custom textured wallpaper in neutral colors.

A convertible den downstairs, done in deep earth tones, can be used as a surround-sound media room or as a guest bedroom. The den, a guest bathroom and a two-level hallway closet with storage alcove can be closed off to create a guest suite.

The sleek, compact kitchen, which features Wood Mode cabinets and a Walker Zanger glass-tiled backsplash, opens into the living room/dining area, where a dramatic three-tiered spiral pendant light fixture (with 48 bulbs) drops from above.

The master suite upstairs encompasses the entire floor, with a large walk-in closet with full-length mirrors, workstation area and contemporary-style bathroom. The minimalist decor with track lighting in the high ceilings creates a loftlike feel.
