at Boston 6, Kansas City 0: Josh Beckett (11-3) retired the first nine batters, five on strikeouts, and picked up his 100th victory. The right-hander finished with a three-hitter and joined teammate Tim Wakefield as the only 11-game winners in the American League. First baseman Aaron Bates, called up from the minors Monday, was three for four, including two doubles, and drove in a run.

at Seattle 5, Texas 3: Pinch-hitter Chris Shelton and Rob Johnson hit consecutive run-scoring singles with two out in the seventh inning to lead the hosts. Ichiro Suzuki had two hits for the Mariners, raising his batting average to .362 and extending his hitting streak to 11 games.

at Detroit 10, Cleveland 1: Clete Thomas drove in five runs, Brandon Inge hit two home runs and Justin Verlander (10-4) struck out eight batters in seven shutout innings, giving him 149 strikeouts, the most by a Tiger at the All-Star break since Mickey Lolich had 156 in 1972.

Oakland 7, at Tampa Bay 3: Orlando Cabrera hit a tiebreaking single in a four-run seventh inning. Kurt Suzuki and pinch-hitter Jack Cust each singled in a run, and Mark Ellis drove in Landon Powell with a groundout to set up Cabrera’s hit.

at Baltimore 4, Toronto 2: Brad Bergesen (6-3) took a shutout into the seventh inning and Brian Roberts drove in two runs for the Orioles, who have won six of their last nine series.

at Angels 5, New York 4: The Angels completed a three-game sweep.
