at New York 6, Baltimore 4: A.J. Burnett won his fourth straight decision and Mariano Rivera earned his fifth save in six days for the Yankees, who won their sixth in a row. New York scored four runs in the first inning. Rookie Jason Berken (1-8) lost his eighth in a row.

at Oakland 16, Minnesota 1: Rajai Davis drove in four runs and Scott Hairston hit a three-run homer for the Athletics, who had a 12-1 lead after two innings. Oakland had 18 hits.

Seattle 2, at Detroit 1: Russell Branyan hit a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth inning to make a winner of Felix Hernandez (11-3), who struck out eight in seven innings.

at Toronto 10, Cleveland 6: Marco Scutaro hit two of the Blue Jays’ season-high five home runs and matched a career-high with four RBIs. Aaron Hill, Alex Rios and Vernon Wells also homered for Toronto.

at Chicago 4, Tampa Bay 3: Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run triple and the White Sox moved within a game of first-place Detroit in the Central Division.

Angels 9, at Kansas City 6: The Angels completed a three-game sweep.
