Norman (64) storms into the lead

Greg Norman shot a bogey-free six-under-par 64 on Saturday to grab the lead by a stroke heading into the last round of the Senior British Open at Sunningdale, England.

Norman was at 10-under 200, a stroke ahead of overnight leader Fred Funk (72) and Loren Roberts (67).

Tom Watson’s hopes of improving on his runner-up spot in the British Open last week took a hit after a 70 that left him six shots behind Norman.

“I put the ball in play and putted decently,” Norman said. “I got on the tee and could see the shots I wanted to play and just went and played them. I really wasn’t worried about anything else.”

Mark Calcavecchia birdied nine holes in a row in the Canadian Open to break the PGA Tour record. In perfect morning scoring conditions at rain-softened Glen Abbey in Oakville, Calcavecchia opened the delayed second round with two pars, then reeled off the nine straight birdies. His nine birdie putts were from 15 feet or closer. Calcavecchia shot a seven-under 65 to finish two rounds at eight under. He was five strokes behind leader Jason Dufner entering the third round, postponed until today after heavy afternoon rain. . . . Becky Brewerton of Wales shot a three-under 69 to grab a share of the Evian Masters lead for the third consecutive round at Evian-les-Bains, France. Brewerton enters today’s final round tied with Sophie Gustafson of Sweden -- who had a five-under 67 -- and In-Kyung Kim of South Korea at 12-under 204.

Querrey reaches Indianapolis final

Sam Querrey found success in his third consecutive trip to the semifinals at the Indianapolis Tennis Championships, setting up an all-American final.

Querrey earned his first berth in the Indianapolis final, beating Frank Dancevic of Canada, 6-4, 6-4. Querrey, ranked 37th in the world and seeded third, will face countryman Robby Ginepri in today’s championship.

Querrey, runner-up at Newport, R.I., on July 12, reached a tournament final for the third time this season. He won an ATP title at Las Vegas in 2008.

Ginepri, who knocked off American John Isner, 6-4, 6-3, to advance, won ATP titles at Indianapolis in 2005 and Newport in 2003. The unseeded Ginepri is ranked 95th.

Top-ranked Dinara Safina has reached her seventh final of the year by beating Alberta Brianti of Italy, 6-4, 6-3, in the Slovenia Open at Portoroz. Safina will play defending champion Sara Errani of Italy. The fifth-seeded Errani defeated Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland, 6-1, 6-2. . . . Second-seeded Nikolay Davydenko came from behind in both sets to beat David Ferrer, 7-5, 7-6 (2), and set up a German Open final against Paul-Henri Mathieu at Hamburg. Mathieu beat qualifier Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Bolt, teammates win 400 relay

Usain Bolt and his club teammates ran the fourth-fastest 400-meter relay in history at the London Grand Prix.

Bolt anchored the team that included fellow Jamaicans Yohan Blake and Mario Forsythe, plus Antigua’s Daniel Bailey, representing the Kingston-based Racers Track Club. They won in 37.46 seconds.

Ratliff signs with San Antonio

The San Antonio Spurs have signed center Theo Ratliff.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-10 Ratliff, a 14-year NBA veteran, spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 1.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.02 blocks in 12.6 minutes while appearing in 46 games.

Global Hunter took advantage of a fading stretch run from heavy favorite Monterey Jazz to win the $350,000 Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar.

The Cleveland Browns have signed center Alex Mack, their first-round draft pick from California. . . . The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms on a five-year contract with first-round draft choice Ziggy Hood. The defensive lineman from Missouri was drafted 32nd overall by the Super Bowl champions.
