The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Tuesday supporting Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s proposal to sell the county fairgrounds to a local government agency or nonprofit.

Earlier this month the Fair Board approved a resolution with similar language. Supervisors John Moorlach and Bill Campbell said they hoped the land, in Costa Mesa, would remain in local hands and continue to be used for a fair.

Moorlach, whose district includes the Orange County Fairgrounds, said the Fair Board has created a nonprofit to try to buy the land and is waiting for an appraisal.

“We’ve been supportive,” Moorlach said. “We’ve also given them ideas, and we’re also happy to assist if they deem it helpful.”
