Last year was a breakthrough for basic cable channels, when AMC’s original series “Mad Men” won the Emmy for best drama series. This year, “Mad Men” stands a good chance of winning again, but the basic cable competition is pretty stiff, with AMC’s other series, “Breaking Bad,” the gritty FX series “Rescue Me” (above) and the final season of Sci-Fi Channel’s hit “Battlestar Galactica” giving the networks a run for their money.
