Mets are swept, get more bad news
Andrew McCutchen went two for four and scored three runs in his major league debut to help the Pittsburgh Pirates complete a three-game sweep of the New York Mets with an 11-6 victory Thursday.
The depleted Mets got a double dose of bad news after the game when it was learned that injured shortstop Jose Reyes has a tear in his right hamstring and reliever J.J. Putz is experiencing pain in his elbow.
Reyes, who has been on the disabled list since May 21 because of right calf tendinitis, felt the hamstring injury Wednesday during a rehabilitation game.
Putz will leave the team and return to New York to be examined by team doctors today.
