I find it interesting that Kenneth Turan -- purposely, I’m sure -- paraphrased a quote from the Bible to describe the bloodthirsty mood at Cannes [“Prizes Peer Into the Dark,” May 25]. The judges, he said, had a “thirst for darkness over light.”

What would have been more interesting is if he had completed the quote: “Men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” This seems as good an explanation as any for the current run on sick, nasty entertainment.
