Kings lose their way on the road

Henrik Sedin scored twice in a 30-second span midway through a wild third period, and the Vancouver Canucks beat the Kings, 4-2, on Friday night.

Sedin’s outburst came less than a minute and a half after the Kings tied it on goals by Alexander Frolov and Anze Kopitar 26 seconds apart, the later on a harmless wrist shot off the left boards during a three-on-two rush.

Somehow it went past Roberto Luongo on the short side, but Sedin bailed out his goaltender a short while later, driving hard to the backdoor to convert a nice passing play from Pavol Demitra and Ryan Kesler off the rush.

It was Sedin’s first goal in nine games, and the 100th goal of his career. He added No. 101 on the next shift, spinning into a pair of defenders in the high slot before getting away a quick shot that seemed to handcuff Kings goalie Jonathan Quick, slipping in between his blocker and his body.

It was the first loss in four games for the Kings, but their fifth straight on the road, where they are 13-16-1 this season. That’s not a good sign for a team that remains five points out of the last playoff spot in the West, and plays 11 of its final 15 games away from home, starting in San Jose tonight.

Alex Burrows and Mats Sundin scored in a first period dominated by Vancouver, and Luongo finished with 24 saves to avenge a 3-2 loss in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Quick finished with 28 saves for the Kings.

Despite outshooting the Kings, 20-3, in the opening period, Vancouver was fortunate to be up, 2-0.

Quick made several great saves before getting caught behind his own goal on a dump in that caromed off his stick and back in front, leaving Burrows with an empty net midway through the period.
