Manny is quoted today as saying, “Maybe age is catching up to me,” in reference to his recent hamstring injury.

Of course, he comes out publicly and says this one week after signing a $45-million two-year contract with the Dodgers.

I sure hope the Dodgers have an insurance policy for Manny, because I feel there will be a lot more games in the future where Manny will “feel his age.”

Forced, belatedly, to return from his once premature retirement, 74-year-old Dodger Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax is considering taking to the mound for his old team as the pitching-depleted team and the financially strapped lefty forge common cause.

“I’ve had a lot of rest and we’ll see what’s left in this old arm,” Koufax explained. Koufax, who was once securely retired, has been thinking about returning since suffering severe losses with Bernie Madoff, the deposed investment guru. “Maybe something good can come out of this thing,” he said.

Rumored to be joining him on the hill is 37-year old once-upon-a-midnight-Claire former Dodger, Pedro Martinez. “Hey, my arm is in no worse shape than that old guy’s, so why not?” Martinez offered.
