The fallout continues over Republican state lawmakers who voted for tax hikes.

Assemblyman Anthony Adams (R-Hesperia) resigned under pressure Thursday night as chairman of the San Bernardino County Republican Party.

Adams was among six Republican legislators who voted with the Democratic majority to increase the sales tax by 1 cent and boost income taxes and vehicle license fees.

“I think the committee as a whole thought my vote on the budget was too big a distraction for what they are trying to do,” Adams said in explaining his decision to step down.

Those who had called for his resignation included state Sen. Bob Dutton (R-Rancho Cucamonga), who objected to Adams’ chiding other GOP lawmakers for not supporting the budget compromise.
