The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department appealed for help Monday in finding additional witnesses to a possible hate-crime attack on African American teenagers at a party last month.

More than 150 high school-age students were attending a party April 11 in rural Dulzura when a brawl broke out. Several African American teenagers were reportedly beaten as their attackers yelled racial slurs.

So far, 22 sheriff’s investigators have interviewed 43 witnesses; interviews with 12 more are pending. The department wants help in finding another 25 to 30 witnesses at the party.

The department has identified seven victims of the alleged assault, all of whom had left when deputies arrived at the party.

Anyone with information is asked to call (619) 473-3046.
