The City Council on Friday approved an ordinance that would allow Animal Services to increase fees for services such as pet adoptions and breeding permits.

The new fees are set to begin at the end of June or July, after approval from the mayor, according to a department official. The pet adoption fees would jump from $91 to $117 for dogs, $68 to $76 for cats and $40 to $46 for rabbits.

Also affected by the increases are hundreds of rescue groups, which will now pay a $40 fee, an increase from $28, for each animal that must be spayed or neutered.
