Without a prayer

Re “No Obama prayer day service,” May 8

Allow me to relay some advice to all the fundamentalists who feigned disappointment when the White House did not host an event on the “National Day of Prayer.” It comes from a source they are, evidently, not well acquainted with: “And whenever you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to stand in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. I tell you with certainty, they have their full reward,” as stated by Jesus in the sixth chapter of Matthew.

Your reporter appears to lump atheists, Hindus, Muslims and Jews in the same basket of “nonbelievers.” Not believing in the Bible does not constitute atheism -- and that indeed is the point.
