Masked Palestinian youths breached a 20-foot-high section of Israel’s separation barrier in the West Bank in a protest meant to echo the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago this month.

As Israeli border guards fired tear gas and a foul-smelling spray from behind the high concrete barrier, protesters opened a space under one of the panels and used a car jack to dislodge it.

“No matter how tall, all walls fall,” read one banner pasted on the structure by Palestinian youths aided by Israeli activists, who say sections of the wall through Palestinian communities represent a land grab by Israel.

The youths scattered when guards rushed to close the breach.
