I enjoyed Dennis Lim’s second look at William Castle [“His Promotion Skills Were Scary,” Oct. 18] and as a youngster of 63 remember the fun I had seeing them.

I wanted to add something about “13 Ghosts” -- besides the gimmick of “illusion-o” was young Charles Herbert’s constant statements that their housekeeper was a “witch.” Of course with Margaret Hamilton playing the part and the inside joke of her with a “Wizard of Oz” broom at the end, what else could she be?

My favorite was “House on Haunted Hill” and I remember there was an usher present guarding the curtain that the plastic skeleton came out from. William Castle was no Orson Welles -- he was more like the P.T. Barnum of the movie industry. I’ll take a Jumbo to a Rosebud any time.
